Beer as good as water at rehydrating after exertion

A new study from the University of Granada in Spain indicates that beer, in moderation, does as good a job at rehydrating one’s body and replacing needed minerals as does drinking water. A study presented today in Brussels (Belgium) shows that moderate consumption of beer after practicing physical exercise is as effective as drinking water for rehydration and recovery, experts say. Dr. Manuel Castillo, of the University of Granada , presented the results of the tests conducted with a group of young men, which consisted of measuring the body’s reaction to the ingestion of water or beer after strenuous physical exertion .

However, contrary to reports that followed on other? sites, it was not President Obama himself who brewed the beer, but the White House kitchen staff.
